On Jul 19, 2013, it was Friday afternoon when everyone is expecting a nice weekend, MSH CHINA received a call from a female client. The client had a high fever, was experiencing abdominal pain, and her body was extremely weak. Since her husband was away on business trip, she was alone at home. Considering the clinical symptoms were severe and we didn’t have enough information for the right diagnosis, MSH CHINA immediately arranged for her transportation to a nearby medical facility---Central Hospital of Jing An district. Additionally, Service & Medical staff met her at the hospital to offer further assistance.
When we arrived at the hospital, the client was having an IV drop. After consulting with her ER doctor, we were informed that the client was in stable condition. Despite the client’s condition being under control, she was too weak to move around. Having noticed that client could not go to the bathroom to produce urine sample, MSH staff brought in hospital screens, placed blankets around her bed, and created a temporary, safe, and private environment for her to complete the urine test.
The client was diagnosed with Acute Gastroenteritis which requires hospitalization for 2 to 3 days for further medical treatment. In order to provide a better medical environment for our client, with doctor’s approval, we transferred the client to Huadong Hospital’s VIP department and stayed with the client until her husband arrived. Her husband was very surprised that his insurance company would accompany his wife until he arrived.
After successful treatment at Huadong Hospital, the client fully recovered and was discharged.

The Newborn Guardian Angels
In 2013 spring, a 33-week-pregnant mother had to undergo an emergency C-section because of having pre-eclampsia and fetal distress symptoms. The 3-pound premature baby was in severe condition whose Apger rate was 1-3-7. The doctor suggested that the baby should be transferred to Shanghai Children’s Medical Center immediately for emergency treatment. Failure to do so would lead to fatal consequences.
The MSH CHINA medical service team rushed to the hospital as they heard the news. While they were consoling the family outside the operation room, they also asked the doctors about the condition of the mother and the baby so as to arrange the transportation ahead of time. Daisy, the hospital representative of Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, also arranged all the necessary procedures for immediate client’s hospital transfer.
With the help of MSH professionals, the baby was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in just 30minutes. Our hospital representative had even arranged direct billing service for this “out of network” hospital to ensure the smooth admission of the baby’s treatment. Everyone was waiting anxiously outside the ICU as the baby was still at risk. The baby’s father, who spoke French, barely ate for the past 24 hours, was almost fainted when he heard the doctor announced the baby was in critical condition. Our hospital representative then offered him chocolate bar and a glass of warm water, and at the same time, provided translation and interpretation according to the father’s need.
After three months, the family of three, who have been hovering around the edge of life and death, sent us back their baby photos. We all feel so grateful that we are the guardian angels of this new life.
